British Airways cabin crew in 48-hours strike

According to BBC more than 40 flights has been cancelled at Heathrow airport as British’s airways cabin crew go on strike January 10 - 11.

The so-called "mixed-fleet "crew have raised their concerned over the lowest wages taken by BA and left their wings on plane as they decided to call a 48- hours stoppage over poverty levels at the Uk's national carrier.

However the BA said that flights from London city and Gatwick airport will be operating normal over the next 48 hours where the strike will be in progress.

The mixed- fleet cabin crew has joined BA in 2010 and their earnings are 13.000 pounds per year plus 3 pounds flight time and according to their statement are the lowest among the UK and aviation industry.

But British airways said that “the pay data shows that the range of earnings paid out to full time mixed fleet crew between September 2015 and August 2016 was 21,151 -27,356 pounds”

“ These poverty pay levels for cabin crew are below the living wage and are among the lowest in the industry, putting the UK’s national carrier to shame” said the Union on its statement.

The 2.900 members' Union were planning a strike during the Christmas period but BA suspended after "sweet talks" and promises between them concerning wage issue.

Unite national officer Oliver Richardson said :” Going on strikes is never an easy decision, so we are pleased with the numbers of mixed fleet cabin crew who have taken the courageous step to take a stand against poverty pay at British Airways.”
